Design and marketing for the horticulture industry
Branding & packaging design for gardening and horticulture brands
We have worked with Mr Fothergill’s and the Johnsons Seeds brand for over 20 years, helping them to create new brands and packaging designs to appeal to their broad target market of gardening enthusiasts.
Johnsons Seeds were looking to refresh their Sarah Raven range of flower seed packets, with a more contemporary feel to appeal to their target audience. Retaining a large product image and portrait photo of Sarah were key to the packaging structure. We introduced the ‘shabby chic’ feel to give the seed packets a softer, brighter look. The two categories are colour-coded for ease of selection on stand with more personal variety notes from Sarah and sowing directions on the reverse.

Advertising campaigns for horticulture brands
When Unwins were looking to refresh their advertising style to generate more sales, we designed a new advert template to run across all their future adverts in the gardening press and newspaper garden supplements.
Understanding their target audience, researching competitor advertising and generating a new form layout were all key to engaging their customers and generating more enquiries.
When Mr Fothergill’s gained the rights to sell Seasol, Australia’s No.1 selling garden seaweed plant tonic, we created a full page advert to help raise awareness of the product in the UK. The advert features the product as the hero with illustrations for visual cues that the product is suitable for all types of plants, from flowers to vegetables and fruit:

Point of sale display design for the horticulture industry
Mr Fothergill’s were looking to launch a new product into the market called Seed Cube, an easy way to sow a selection of flowers in your garden.
We created the Seed Cube branding and graphics for the packaging, using bright colours to colour code the varieties, clear typography and striking imagery. The product has a modern and clean feel to appeal to a wide audience of keen and beginner gardeners. We also transferred the design onto a counter display for easy merchandising in store. When they were originally launched to the trade they earned twice as many orders than initially forecast.

Trade marketing for the horticulture industry
Part of our experience in working with the horticulture industry over the years is the understanding we’ve built up of their business to business customer relationships and marketing.
We can help them to create great consumer brands and packaging design, but they need to sell these into their customers to ensure they generate the orders, from the large DIY stores and garden centre chains through to the small independents.
Over the years we’ve helped Mr Fothergill’s by designing their trade catalogue and presenters, allowing their sales team to present their range, new products and varieties, plus their full point of sale support items to their customers.
